The Wisconsin EMS Association (WEMSA) has named Cregg Suess, a faculty member at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), as the recipient of the\u00a02024 WEMSA Educator of the Year Award<\/a>. This award highlights Suess\u2019 \u201cextraordinary contributions to EMS education and his unwavering dedication to preparing the next generation of emergency medical professionals.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovating the classroom experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a full-time emergency medical technician instructor at NWTC, Suess prioritizes student engagement and success by incorporating hands-on practice, educational games, and online tools. These methods help prepare students for the demanding field of emergency medical services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suess has also played a pivotal role in developing new CPR instructors, mentoring struggling students, and implementing advanced teaching strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leader in the EMS community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Suess\u2019 impact on the EMS community reaches far beyond the classroom. His work extends to the state level, where he contributes to curriculum development, ensuring EMS education in Wisconsin remains current and effective. Additionally, he maintains his clinical expertise by working part-time at Froedtert Hospital and with an EMS agency, which helps him bring real-world experience back to his students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to WEMSA, the Educator of the Year Award celebrates Suess\u2019 \u201cprofound impact on students and the broader EMS community, honoring a career dedicated to shaping the future of emergency medical services through education, compassion, and leadership.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Estrup, dean of public safety, adds, \u201cThis award not only reflects Suess\u2019 remarkable achievements but also highlights the values and excellence he brings to NWTC and the EMS profession.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suess was nominated by retired NWTC EMS instructor and 2021 WEMSA Educator of the Year winner, James Boland.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is a great honor to be receiving this award, but a greater honor [to] have one of your instructing mentors nominate you,\u201d Suess said. \u201cThis award is a group effort from the mentorships to the teaching assistants that give their time and experience to create a successful student.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
