Website Review of student.nwtc.edu
A website that uses HTML5 structural elements is the NWTC Student Portal. It very clearly uses the header, nav, main, and footer elements, and most parts contain navigational features. The header contains the NWTC logo as well as links related to my profile such as shopping cart and email. The main navigation section is a column on the left, and all the links are grouped into collapsable categories to optimize space. The middle column has a background picture with a couple of links for finding classes and programs. The right column contains links that give me access to materials related to classes. Scrolling down to the second half of the page, the navigation section on the left stays fixed, but only one column is on the right this time. It contains the same links that are in the left column navigation section, but these are larger pictures, which make them easier and nicer to use. Finally, there is, of course, the footer containing copyright information.
The color pallete is nice, and it is based off of the NWTC logo. Everything is laid out in the perfect spots with the more important links at the top, and easier navigation at the bottom while also having said navigation always accessible in the left column. The links are easy to use as they clearly show what they are used for. In addition, if you should ever need help finding something or understanding something, there is a link that stays fixed at the bottom right of the screen which you can click to ask Student Services questions.
Only four errors and five warnings exist, and I did expect few errors from a college website. Also, the warnings all pertain to the same issue.
