They started Shopify because, about 10 years ago, there weren’t any great options for them to host their own online store for snowboards. Therefore, not only did they create a business, they also created a business for that (and other people’s) business.

There don’t appear to actually be any specific requirements besides allowing API access.

Everything is hosted on Shopify’s server, and they even help you get started, offer limitless bandwidth, and update the software.
