Vlad figured that a drag-and-drop functionality would be much simpler for people to create with than other options. After failing three times, he had a couple of other people join the team, and they eventually gained traction a year later.
Requirements
An SSL repo is needed, but other than that, there appear to be no specific requirements.
Hosted/Self-hosted
It can apparently be hosted anywhere: by them, by you, or by somewhere else you choose to put the files.
Cost
There is a small free plan. Otherwise, the pricing per month is $14, $23, and $39.
User Base
About 500,000 sites use it.
